Find Peace Through Understanding of Your Genes – Why I Stopped Chasing a Cure (and Found Peace Instead)

If you’ve ever lived with a chronic condition like psoriasis, you know how consuming the search for answers can be. For years, I tried everything—conventional medicine, strict elimination diets, intensive gut protocols—hoping I could “fix” myself once and for all.


And while some of those approaches gave me temporary relief, none of them got to the root of what was really going on in my body. I was determined to keep searching. That search led me down a path I never expected: becoming a certified nutritionist and diving deep into functional health.


But the true turning point came when I discovered the power of genetic testing.

The Missing Piece: My Genes


When I finally ran my genetic test, I uncovered something that explained so much of my struggle:

  • My body is prone to oxidative stress (an overload of free radicals that damage cells).

  • I carry genetic variants that make me more vulnerable to inflammation.

  • I have methylation issues, which affect how well my body detoxifies, balances hormones, and even manages mood.


No elimination diet or supplement protocol alone could fully resolve these underlying vulnerabilities. What I needed was to work with my unique cellular pathways—not against them.


That’s when my healing journey shifted. Instead of chasing the next “cure,” I began focusing on supporting my body where it needed it most.


A New Way of Healing


Once I understood my genetic blueprint, I was able to:

  • Choose foods and nutrients that supported my methylation and detox pathways.

  • Create lifestyle practices that reduced inflammation and calmed my nervous system.

  • Address stress in a sustainable way, not just with willpower, but with daily rituals that restored balance.


And here’s the beautiful part: healing didn’t mean perfection. I stopped fearing flare-ups. Instead, I started to see them as messages from my body, gentle reminders that I was pushing too hard or neglecting what truly nourished me.


The Most Valuable Lesson


What I’ve learned through all of this is simple, but life-changing:


Know thyself. Know your genes.


Today, I no longer obsess over the idea of being “cured.” I focus on living fully, loving myself, and embracing the people around me. Psoriasis no longer defines me—it guides me. It has taught me strength, resilience, and the beauty of self-acceptance.

Life is still full of ups and downs, but now I see those ups and downs as part of the process. And the more I honor my body’s wisdom, the more peace and joy I find in the journey.
